Arts & Crafts Style
73
The human nature of changing things after some time proves very effective when it comes to designing and architecture. New and modern designs were invented to change the environment of the house. By the end of the nineteenth century, the designers in search for new interior design ideas started copying styles from other nations and countries. This step started a new period in interior designing. A number of new styles were introduced in the field of designing. Crafts style is one of those decorating styles which were invented during the period during the arts and crafts movement in the 1900s. It was a reaction against the impoverished conditions the decorative arts were produced in and is seen as essentially anti-industrial. The Arts & Crafts movement advocated truth to materials and traditional craftsmanship using simple forms and styles of decoration.
Here are some decorating ideas to be aware of when decorating with Arts & Crafts style.
Colors:
Generally natural colors such as brown or reddish brown are used in the Arts & Crafts style. The colors used are brown, grey, blue and brick color. Green is also a general choice for the crafts style.
Texture:
Textures are the basic elements to give the place a soft and artistic style touch. The room is given a colorful texture. For this purpose an area rug or a fabric accent is placed in the room. Tiffany style lamps also give the environment a beautiful and attractive look. To be more specific hand-loomed and printed fabrics serve as a cherry on top.
Furniture:
Wood is the most preferable material used for the furnishings in arts and crafts style. Built-in and natural colored furniture give a better look to the style. Arts and crafts style does not promote overwhelming furniture instead it focuses on less. Remember, this style developed out of a reaction against machine-production.
Lighting:
The lighting system in the crafts style of interior designing is bright and provides a warm glow to the environment. Arts and crafts style promotes full lined, hand-hammered copper lighting. Hand-leaded or painted art glass lightning are also essential in providing a bona fide and inventive look. Even some antique style lightning would serve best for the purpose.
